1. LAWRENCE1 GREATRAKE was born Abt. 1700, and died Abt. 1760 in , , Eng. He is thought to have been the same Lawrence Greatrake listed in Bristol financial accounts records in 1759 as a plumber. If so, he was probably a near relative of Osborne Greatrake, a prominent English merchant and sea captain who had an estate in County Cork and a mercantile establishment in Bristol (see "Family of Greatrakes," in The Gentleman's Magazine, January, 1815, p. 8; see also the Rev. Samuel Hayman's "Notes on the family of Greatrakes," in The Reliquary and Illustrated Archaeologist: A Quarterly Journal and Review, Vol. IV. No. 14 [1863], 81-96; Vol. IV. No. 16 [1864], 220-36; and Vol. V. No. 18 [1865], 94-104). LAWRENCE GREATRAKE married UNAMED ______ Abt. 1725. She was born Abt. 1705.

2. ROGER2 GREATRAKE (LAWRENCE 1) was born Abt. 1730 in < , Cork, Ire.>, and died Abt. 1803 in , , Eng. (perhaps in Lancashire). He married ELIZABETH COTTLE 21 May 1759 in Bath, Somerset, Eng. She was born Abt. 1732 in < , , Eng.>, and died 29 Jul 1793 at Apsley Mill, Hertford, Eng. Roger was the manager (and perhaps part owner) of the corn and paper mill at Apsley, in Kings Langley Parish (near Hemel Hempstead), Hertfordshire, until the late 1790s. It was at his mill, and some adjacent mills, that the machine-made paper-making industry was established, shortly after Roger Greatrake's death.

Note: A "Maria Greatrake," age approx. 77, was living with Susan Marshall in 1870 in Alleghany City, PA. She was possibly the widow of George Greatrake. Her parents were not of foreign birth. The said Mrs. Susan Marshall (widow?) was probably her daughter.

He was born 15 Oct 1795 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA, and died 05 May 1870.

The only child of ELIZA GREATRAKE and BENJAMIN F. PEALE was:

i. ANNA ELIZABETH5 PEALE, b. 26 Mar 1816 in Philadelphia; d. 1906. She was raised by the Peale family, after annulment of her parents' marriage (1820) and legislative confirmation/enforcement of the annulment (1832).
